The Crazy 8 – My Simple Mottos for Happiness

By Peter L. Getman
MicroArts Principal Brand Director

@microarts.com, our brand strategy and Internet marketing agency, I tend to find myself pondering what intellectual perspectives create happiness in people’s lives. Recently, I wrote these down in a brief moment of lucid clarity of how I think about happiness. This helps me make decisions in my daily life, both at my branding agency and in my personal life.

  • What’s worth doing is worth doing passionately.
    It will help you prioritize your goals, your business, and your life.
  • Sharing is better than owning.
    It’s the difference between feeling happy and feeling lonely.
  • Live life now.
    It’s true. It also makes a decent rationale when you make a choice that rips the wheels off the bus.
  • Find the good in everything. It’s there.
    Perfect this skill, it will halve the number of shitty days you have.
  • Patience is a virtue, not a synonym for procrastination.
    Nike had it right. “Just Do It.” Little accomplishments = happiness.
  • Envy is cancer in your soul.
    Embrace your friends’ successes and luxuries; they’re your friends.
  • Cut yourself a break.
    Who needs someone else to cut you a break? Do it yourself.
  • Will it matter in a year?
    If it won’t, should you let it ruin your day, your mood when you deal with it?

Help me add to this missive? This is a page out of the book I’m writing and would love to add your motto for happiness. All contributors can get a hip T-shirt [free] with the “passionately” motto on it. Share your insight or personal motto, then order at: microarts.com/creative.

    What a lovely surprise to find your 8 mottos for happiness!

    I especially liked:

    * Live life now.

    * Find the good in everything. It's there.

    * Cut yourself a break.

    * Will it matter in a year?

    In that vein, I would include: "Keep it Simple."

    Best,
